I would like this to happen sooner rather than later because I will be purchasing my first Macbook Pro when the new models drop. I do a lot of audio work and once light peak is being made for audio interfaces, external drives etc... it's going to be nice! My audio interface alone is worth as much as a MBP and I would still be willing to ditch it if it meant faster implementation of Light Peak, or whatever Apple decides to call it.

I have a feeling Light Peak is destined to be the next Firewire, especially since this first implementation will be copper-based. But I agree with Cicatrix - I'm not buying another new Mac until it has some kind of high-speed external bus interface. Removing the ExpressCard slot in favor of an SD card reader, was a huge mistake in the "Pro" level machines, IMHO.
