Mail question

I recently switched to a Mac Pro from a PC. I am able to get my email on my cell phone. With my dell I would only get messages on my phone when I hadn't logged in on my computer. Even though I opened them on my phone, when I next logged in on my laptop I would still get those emails.

Now since I have been on my Mac Pro using their Mail I still get my messages on my phone, but I get all of them, even if I have already opened them on my laptop. I get a lot of emails and I don't want them to show up on my phone if I have already opened them up on my laptop.

I figure this must be a setting somewhere, but don't know where to look
