Spam Email sent from my account

Hello,

I'd like to ask for advise regarding the following problem.

Over the last few days, my entire address book of contacts in my mac mail (linked to an aol account) has been sent spam emails of a not too savoury nature. How can I stop it / clear my computer of it?

The sent spam emails are visible in the sent folder.

Change your email passwords. Someone has clearly gotten access to your AOL account.

Agree with schweb, this happened to me on my hotmail account, somehow they must have gotten my password and sent emails on a daily basis for about a week (I hadn't checked my email for this period of time), about as you say "a not too savoury nature".
Changed my password and it all stopped.
