Well tell us some details. If it is affecting your browsers, clean cache, cookies and history for starters in browser preferences. For Firefox this is Preferences > Privacy and Preferences > Advanced > Network > Clear Now.

If using Safari also hit the Reset button.

If I was a betting man (and I'm not) I would say your email account has been hacked/password cracked. Just change your email password to something harder to guess. See if it happens anymore.

Probably Hotmail or Gmail? They are the easiest and simplest to hack.

It is quite possible that your e-mail account hasn't been compromised at all. Rather, it's possible that a spammer is spoofing (that is, falsely using) your e-mail address as their return address.

Or, it could be that a Windows virus is spoofing your e-mail address. Everyone that you know with a Windows PC who has your address in their addressbook is susceptible to hundreds of thousands of viruses. Some of those viruses can take your e-mail address from their addressbook and send out e-mail, all without your friend(s) knowing about it.

Unfortunately, other than suggesting that your friends use anti-virus software, there is nothing that you can do to prevent this.

^ That has happened to me to twice with gmail, and since I have a 50 random character password (Ty 1Password!) I am pretty sure that it was a spoof.
And gmail has a Activity area so you can see when someone logs in from a different IP and no one had.
