• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I am having trouble watching video from my Sony Handycam (format is MPG) to my Macbook pro (version 10.6.4). From what I read all video is played using quicktime player which will not read MPG format. I am able to import video in MPG format but I am unable to convert MPG to a format the quicktime player can read!! Anybody have any suggestions or comments?

Get MPEG Streamclip, choose Demux from the File menu. Demux it to the first option, I think it's m2v and aif or something like that. This will separate the audio and video. Then, with the audio and video files in the same folder location, open the m2v with Quicktime Player. Then Save As or Export as a Quicktime movie.
