Is there any great difference between the two? I am on a pretty old MacBook Pro, (2006 model) and was wondering if it was worth it to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

Model Name: MacBook Pro 15"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro1,1
Processor Name: Intel Core Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 1.5 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Would it be a good idea or bad cause it will need more power?

Hey...for $29 bucks from the Apple Store...how can you go wrong?;)

But seriously...10.6 does not really require any additional hardware resources...in fact...most users experience a savings of 10-20 gig of hard drive space after installing 10.6 (in other words...you gain back 10-20 gig of HD space).:)

The only reason I would say NOT to upgrade to 10.6...is if you have some software that will ONLY run with 10.5 & NOT with 10.6.

Hope this helps,

- Nick

That is my fear, I have a lot of apps here and I dunno if they run on snow leopard, but my main thing is the newest update for iLife Garageband. (I am a musician) Does 10.6 run faster or better? Smoother? Anything distinguishable from Leopard to Snow Leopard?

Also, is it safe to just install over Leopard?

You have to look at each one of your "Apps." (or at least the most important ones), see what versions they are...then consult this list:

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard compatibility table - Snow Leopard Compatibility

If you're happy with the way things are with 10.5...then stay where you are. One of the biggest reasons to upgrade to 10.6 is because newer software or hardware may require 10.6. If you're not buying anything new that requires 10.6...then you may not need 10.6 (at least for the moment).
