iMac G4 video lines

My Daisy G4 700MHz 15" Leopard 10.5.8 flat screen has video issues. The screen has vertical yellow lines and freezes. Same issue on a second monitor, and happens at startup so is not a screen or operating system issue. Is there a separate video card? Is this a known problem?

Welcome to the Mac Forums.

You didn't mention the year model of your iMac but as far as I know, the video chipset is soldered onto the logic board of your machine. And it does sound like the GPU is bad since the symptom also shows up on an external monitor. It could mean a logic board change out if the GPU is bad and that may run into more $$ than the machine is worth.
