Just wondering... when I connect an external monitor, does the internal one shut off? I'm hoping it does because I plan on turning the eMac sideways on my desk with the ports and drive facing me, and using my 21" flat panel as the main monitor.

PS - Yup, I already ordered the adapter.

When you connect an external monitor it displays the same thing as the internal monitor (which remains on). You could turn the brightness & contrast down as low as possible to "mimic" being off.

Ah poop.... I wonder if there's a way around it to turn it off?

One thought would be to open up the eMac...and pull the appropriate wires to disable the internal monitor. Being careful to avoid getting a BIG time shock.

BUT...with the older G3 iMacs when you do this...it effects the video signal to the external video port...thus the video signal is degraded & basically not very good.

I don't know if this happens with eMac's as well (similar All-In-One design)...just wanted to pass along that info.

Hmm... I suppose I can turn everything down and put a piece of black paper over the screen. Redneck external video!!

And yes, I've been shocked before by a monitor and a TV... trust me I hated it. Luckily I didn't get hurt.

You took the words right out of my fingers! This is on the cards for me too, but my eMac screen is behaving itself at present (fingers crossed).

If I do go the way of an external monitor, I'll put the eMac on the bottom shelf of the work station, because I seldom used the optical drive, preferring external; and powering on each day is a simple exercise, I do it for the external audio amp anyway.

I'm going to soon replace the CRT in my eMac with an LCD display mounted internally but fed from the external display port. I'll post pics when complete.
