Hello,

I am looking to purchase a second hand/refurbished mac to run Final Cut on. I have looked into a few option but am unsure which would be best. I have been looking at imacs and Power macs but don't know which would run better/quicker.

Here's two i've found.

2005 APPLE MAC G5 QUAD 2.5 GHz 250 GB HARD DRIVE, 2 GB RAM

2006 iMac 20", Intel Core Duo 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM , 250 GB HARD DRIVE

Any ideas on what would be my best option?

Many Thanks,

The Intel iMac is the better choice as it can run the latest operating system - Snow Leopard, and software. The G5 is a very good machine but it's limited to Leopard and only software which will run on a PPC machine.

You can update the iMac memory to 4 GB yourself and later on even install a larger hard drive.

What version of Final Cut you are going to be using? This may help with responses.:)

Initially I'll be running just final cut express but will be looking for a machine that could handle Final Cut Studio in the future.

Thanks

WHICH VERSION!!! Final Cut Express is currently on version 4.0!

If we don't know which version you will be running...how can we know if the computer you're thinking of buying can run it?:)

Apologies, Final Cut 4.0 ideally.

Thanks for the info. As "chscag" mentioned...the Intel iMac would probably be the better choice for future needs.

Neither. Get an iMac that has a Core 2 Duo or better, NOT Core Duo.
