reception stronger on older G5

I have an older G5 desktop w/original airport card so when I connect to an unsecured network for internet connection, the reception is much stronger than my new Macbook Pro. Any ideas why? Thanks.

Without any other details I suspect the antenna on the desktop G5 is more efficient than the one in the MBP. The antenna in your MBP is behind the display in the lid.
