iMac G3 DVD Drive Upgrade

Are there any known dvd drive upgrades for iMac g3s other then the ones that came with them factory, like a dvd burner?

If it is a 400MHz iMac or faster, they came with Firewire 400 ports so look for an external Firewire Superdrive. It does need to be Firewire in order to be bootable as USB is much too slow, even on models up to the G5, apart from one model of iMac G5.

thanks for the suggestion but i was kind of wondering if there where any internal upgrades because i heard of one somewhere but i cant remember where.

If you want to know some drives that work check out the Accelerate Your Mac! Mac Drive Upgrades/Compatibility Database database. Enter your Mac's specs and see whether there are reports from other users about successful upgrades.

Frankly for the cost of a DVD drive upgrade you would be talking the costs of buying a DVD laden 1Ghz+ emac.
