Is there any free way to convert?
Nothing illegal, I have a DVD with video from my prom and I want to share with some friends by uploading some parts to youtube, is it possible?

Thanks, I installed Handbrake and the VLC player. The video is played on the player but when I try to chose the DVD as a source in Handbrake, it says "No valid source found". Any idea why?

Is it a dvd that's playable in a standard dvd player, or indeed with DVD Player on your Mac? Or is it a dvd with a video file on it? Double click on it's desktop icon to open it to see what's inside.

Yeah I tried it with standard DVD player and DVD player on my mac as well, it works. There are .VOB files inside.
I googled it and it seems to be a common problem, guess I'll have to find some other software.

Use MPEGStreamclip to export the vob files to Quicktime. Use the Apple Intermediate Codec option for use in iMovie.
