The new screws are but a speed-bump to a committed tear-down artist. A quick google search turned up a readily available screwdriver that will work with the new screws.

or a hacksaw works... a very gentle one that is. this is not taking a phone apart, THIS IS SURGERY!

or better yet, do what I do with hard drives.. take a drill and just drill through the screw.

Uhh, they're still screws. It's not "welded shut." You can buy screwdrivers that will fit them, if you really want to.

In fact, this whole "story" was broken by iFixit, which is having a special deal on--you guessed it--screwdrivers that will fit them.

Plus, this affects what, 0.001% of all iPhone users? It's a non-story

I thought retro-fitting screws was pretty funny and childish. Whatever.

Trust me this is not something only Apple does a lot of mfg's use speacialty fastners to
keep all but qualified techs out and for the most part do to warranty after that expires
doubt they care. Anyone in the Audio Video field can vouch for that on the equipment side.

Too many...
They made their own "flower" head screw/driver, but failed to realize that small 5-tip bits open it with ease. FAIL. Even i-fixit has their own stuff, without even needing the actual bit to open it.
