Just wanted to let everyone know because as i have been browsing the forums i have see a lot of posts with something like "display flashing" or "pixelated screen".

Mods may want to sticky this to keep people informed because there is not much time left.

NVIDA was recently involved in a class action law suite for several models of laptops that have faulty cards. If your model qualifies you will be eligible for a replacement card or a like equipped laptop at no cost to you. I know that the 2008 model 15inch MBP is one of the effected apple models cause that's the one i have but i have yet to experience the problem.

I urge all of you who think you may have a similar issue to check this outImmediately!! I received an email from the settlement department but many people with effected systems were not notified because of lack of proper registration emails etc etc.

You can go to The NVIDIA GPU Litigation - Home Page for starters and see if your machine qualifies. I know the settlement started January 13, 2011 so there is still time but definitely don't wait.

If this is a duplicate post and someone has said this my apologizes, just wanted to give everyone the heads up that may have missed the emails for whatever reason.

No, don't do that. Take it to Apple, and let them deal with it.

MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues

Don't deal with the lawyers unless Apple won't repair your machine..

Thanks for posting technologist, i wasn't aware that Apple was taking care of this themselves. I stand corrected, i would much rather deal with Apple then going through this litigation process and dealing with the whole lawyer mombo jumbo!

Yep, this has been a well known issue for some time. Apple has been replacing the logic boards of the systems affected by this nVidia card since sometime in '08. They started with extending the warranty to 3 years and as the first folks were closing in on that 3 year mark extended it to 4.

I think there was a larger issue with the other manufacturers that used these video cards and not taking care of their customers - reason for the suit.

Oh ok that makes a lot more sense. I looked at the machines under this suite and Apple definitely had the least amount of problematic machines. Dell and HP were hit very hard by this and since their customer service leaves much to be desired i can sure understand where this suite came from.

And we've got some regulars with one of those models wishing theirs would die since we've had at least a couple of members report getting brand new current model machines instead of repairing the old one.

I'm taking mine in this weekend for this issue, if I end up getting a brand new model back, I will urinate myself right there in the store.

"Clean up in aisle 1..."

roflol - don't get hopes too high - have only read a couple instances of that happening vs being repaired.

I have the 13 inch MBP that I bought in Nov. 09, is this affected by that problem? It does have the Nvidia 9400 chip in it.

If you were to read the link by apple it's only the 15 and 17 inch ones from 07 to 08. It's the 8600M Graphics card.
