Outlook 2011: Storing email/PST import

I imported my PST from the server at work (about 10 gigs) and realized that even when disconnected from the server I still have all emails and attachments in my Outlook. How can I use my pst as a 'referenced' pst so that it does not take up any space on my computer? Also, where does Outlook store this data as I deleted the account and while messing around trying to figure this out re-added it, and Outlook renamed it with a number 1 at the end, alluding to the fact that the account I deleted is still there, which I think it still is somewhere in the back end as I am still down in free hard drive space which can't be for any other reason but this. Help please! Thanks!
