Hi All,

I have read lots of great advice on this forum about Time machine and Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner, etc and I am now convinced that I shall be buying two external hard drives to backup my machine (one for time machine and one to be carbon copied).

I still have not found any advice on a favorite (read: reliable) external hard drive? Any recommendations? I have read a lot of reviews (on places like cnet and newegg) and they seem to vary, with the top being possibly WD, Iomega, or Seagate (although I am not yet convinced about Seagate).

I have used Iomegas and WD for years (currently, my biggest drive is 300 gb and cost me $150! That's how old it is!) and they are all still living and functioning fine even after many cross-country and around the world moves. So, I feel like these are reliable brands. But, I was using them on a Windows machine before. Anything better for a Mac? I'm looking for a 2TB drive and I have an 13" Macbook (the version just before they upgraded it to a pro), so I don't have a firewire.

Thanks for your help!

You might want to take a look on the "Other World Computing" site. They are Mac specialists and have a wide variety of just about everything for your Mac. They stock an excellent line of external hard drives which they call "Mercury on the go". Here is the LINK. They also have an 800 number you can call and ask questions. Excellent support.

I have 2 Lacie drives, and they have a very nice life to them. I have a 500GB which is 3 years old now, and a 1TB which is 1 year now, never had a problem with the integrity of the drive. I did have a power supply replaced with the 500gb, but I never lost any data. I had a bad experience with WD, but many people like them, and I have a seagate in my computer as of now, and it's performing up to snuff.
