Can I use my osx start up disk that came with my mac 15" mbp to restart up my 13" mb..? And how is it done, I have watched a video, that says to press and hold the C key etc... But at what point do I install the disk in order to restart? Thanks
No. You need the original startup DVD for the 13" MB. The startup DVDs are specific for the hardware they were shipped with. If you no longer have the original startup DVD for the MB, you can buy a copy of Snow Leopard for $29 from Apple or Best Buy and use that instead.
A Time Machine backup is not bootable. You still need to boot the machine with the original startup DVD in order to reinstall. During the reinstall process you will be asked if you have a backup. That's when you can use the TM backup to restore everything.
