Home Share Itunes Query

I am running itunes 9.2 on my imac which runs osx 10.4.11
And itunes 10.1.1 on my powerbook which runs osx 10.5.8.
I want to add tunes from my imace itunes library to a playlist on the macbook but when I drag and drop the tracks on home share they wont connect or enter the playlist.
Is this because of a conflict between the itunes and/or OSX operating systems?
Is there any solution to the problem, would anyone recommend downgrading itunes 10.1.1 to 9.2 to fix?

There could be a number of things stopping you from doing this but an itunes version should not be one of them.

Thanks Simon, I have consulted and complied with all those points previously but unfortunately the problem still remains.
Most frustrating.
If anyone has any other ideas I would be most grateful.
