the extension is .pxm anyway i could change it to something to use as a background

There are a few different ways. What type of file is it; I mean is it a .jpg, .gif, etc?

You say you can change it to any file type. That said, with a .jpg, in the Finder right click or control+click on the file and click "Set desktop picture".

Ok i figured it out, when you "save as" you can choose what file to save it as.
