iPhoto not allowing photo email attachments

When i load photos into iPhoto and then try to send an email with some of these photos attached they do not appear in my photo album as being available to attach even though if I close my email (hotmail) and open up iPhoto they are there. I must reboot my computer before they will appear in iPhoto when I click on attachment in the email. Anybody have any solutions?

What version OS are you running and which version of iPhoto?

OS-X I believe (I'm not at home to check). Not sure which version of iPhoto but I purchased the computer new about 1 year ago.
