I am having a problem with .dmg files not installing. They unmount to the desktop but when I click to install the application unexpectedly quits. I am running Tiger 10.5.8 on a 2008 Macbook Pro. Please help. I tried running applejack but single user mode won't work either. I use an external keyboard if it matters.

10.5.8 is Leopard...not Tiger.:)

I would suggest trashing it and try downloading the file again.

And that's about all we can do without knowing the what and where of the file in question.

Fails to install how? Is it something that you are supposed to drag to your machine or is it an installer that is crashing?

My suggestion is first of all to be a bit more clear on what " it " actually is, and where you got it from.
Maybe a new download is all it takes.
Any error messages we can look at or a print screen ?

Agree. It could very well be a corrupt dl. Have had 1 or 2 before. They are rare but do happen. Try another source to get the dl from and try again.

Here is a screenshot of what I am talking about. I have tried re-downloading with different browsers and get the same results. Now my disk image fails to mount certain .dmg files. Specifically OnyX and Maintenance downloaded from apple.com. I downloaded and installed Cyberduck from a zip just fine.

All i could suggest is use a different source . . . .

Download Oynx direct from Titanium Software and make sure you get the .v that pertains to you. ie : The leopard Version

And try and get Maintenance from TUCOWS and this is the version for you . . . .

These are both different sources, and post back if it still is the same result

Cheers
