Man! You took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm wondering when either carrier (AT&T or VZW) will get a 4G/LTE iPhone. I'd kinda like to see AT&T do it this summer, but I don't mind waiting until 2012 either because then my 2yr is up and I won't pay any extra for changing phones.

Even if I had the choice - AT&T or VZW, I'd stick with AT&T because of the ability to be on a phone call and switch over to check an e-mail that person just sent me or "Google" something real quick that we're talking about and then switch back without ever having to hang up the phone and call them back. But that's more of a personal preference, and as they mentioned in the press release, most people won't mind that trade-off just to get the iPhone on their network of choice.

I'm going to stick with AT&T, but I'm still very excited for the verizon iPone. Now there is finally iPhone competition in the states. I hope Verizon and AT&T battle it out over plan pricing and features (maybe AT&T will offer the mobile hotspot feature soon to compete).

During the Q and A, they mentioned working on getting simultaneous data and voice on CDMA. So that should be coming soon.

Not a huge deal to me. I do mostly text and facebook and email and such. Usually only use voice if somebody calls me or if I'm driving.

Can you say iPhone 5? By Summer 2012 both carriers should have their 4G LTE networks up and running full speed.

I wouldn't want the iPhone to go to 4G right after AT&T gets it. They need to work out the bugs and get things up and running for a while before I want to rely on it exclusively.

Verizon iPhone first hands-on! -- Engadget

Screenshots comparisons are available between the VZW and ATT iPhones.

I know I was really curious about this, being that I wanted to know, if iPhone case redesigns would be needed.

Technically, wouldn't "iPhone 5" be the one released on AT&T later this summer? 4 was last yr, 3Gs was 2009, 3G was 2008...

That's my understanding of the naming and release date process. ???

But I do have a feeling you're right about 2012 being the year the CDMA and GSM iPhones get 4G. :D

No early upgrade eligibility for me on VZW, so I'm happy to wait until June 2011 to see what my options are. I like my DX and plan to get every minute out of it that I paid for. Also, I'm interested to see how the "antenna" issue pans out for Verizon. I'm sure there will be a tsunami of comparison articles written along the lines of "I'm standing in the same spot with both iPhones and here's what I'm seeing..." in the upcoming months. Should be an interesting Q1 and Q2 2011.

My area is not covered by 3G (AT&T) but VZW users in the same area enjoy 3G. I hope this expansion would trigger AT&T for better coverage and competitive pricing, if it is different than VZW price structure, in the future very soon.

On thought I have is whether or not paid applications can transfer over. That is, I had several iPhones on AT&T from 2007 until 2010. I'm assuming that since I would be using the same MobileMe/iTunes ID that I used to purchase them, that I could sync up those applications to a VZW iPhone at some point if I buy one.

And now we see if all the "I'll ditch AT&T and switch as soon as the VeriPhone is released" people were bluffing or not.

Here's a full FAQ from VZW, and it mentions no limitations of previous iTunes and MobileMe accounts you may have.

I'm laughing my face off at all the comments made in the OP's link. You just can't please anybody these days I guess. People just seem inherently dumb, if they think that Apple was going to re-design the iP4 for VZN's LTE chip, when not too far down the road the iP5 will be making its debut.

On another note, does someone owe someone else here five bucks or what ?

No. The 3Gs was an update to the 3G with a faster CPU but not a whole new phone. Expect something along those lines this summer for the iPhone 4 (iPhone 4s? with faster or dual core CPU) but udate cycle for a whole new redsigned phone would be 2012.

Hey Tattoo, some of us are still using our old cell phones. Do you think Verizon will allow a trade in? :)

Yes, they will all transfer over if you use the same account
