Using Go while another program is up

To use the Go command (on top line of OSX). I find that I have to close all programs. There must be a better way. What is it?

I'm using OSX 10.5.8

If this is what I think it is, you don't have to close all your programs simply click on an empty part of your desktop, then use which "Go" command you need.

Thanks, that did it. But just a note ... I thought you meant it would bring up a menu with Go but it changes the top line which now has Go.
