I have installed some programs, such as Firefox, on my iMac and when I restart the icons on the dock are a question mark. I then have to click on it to get the Firefox icon to come back and AGAIN it will ask me to drag the icon to the Applications folder (which I have already done). Which step am I missing to keep this from happening in the future?

One of these:
a) You haven't dragged the application to the apps folder, you've dragged the entire .dmg disk image. Drag the little icon instead and delete the disk image
b) You've dragged the icon to your applications folder, but you started the app in question off the disk image first and added that to your Dock. Drag the icon off the Dock and then drag it back in from the Applications folder.
