No Java SE6?

Hi,

I am trying to run PS3 Media server on my iMac 16" Intel, running 10.5.8.

The app will not start, and gives a message "No compatible version of Java 1.6 available".

I have gone to Apple tech support and downloaded Java Update 8 for 10
.5.8, which updates Java to 1.6 and J2SE to J2SE5. It seems to install fine, but there is still only J2SE5 available in java preferences.

I downloaded and installed soylatte, but still no SE6 or Java 1.6!

Help! How can I get Java 1.6?

If you open up Terminal (/Application/Utilities) and type in the following command, what do you get? This should come back with 1.6.0_22.

I've got a reply of java version "1.6.0_03-p3". But this is only after I installed soylatte.

What model of iMac do you have? You need at least a Core 2 Duo for Java 6 under Leopard.

if I don't use soylatte I get "Unable to locate a Java Runtime to invoke"

Core Duo is not a 64-bit capable processor and Java 6 requires a 64-bit processor. You're going to have to use Soylatte. I would suggest changing the symlinks but I'm not sure how that will effect the performance of other applications which may depend on the capabilities of the Apple supplied VM.

EDIT: Found a way that may work for you. Open up terminal and execute the following: That may or may not work but it's worth a shot. That command also assumes you put the PS3 Media Server bundle in /Applications.

Nope - didn't work. But hay - thanks for helping, and replying so many times. I am grateful for your patience and help.

I will just use playback or an alternative like Medialink.

Or I might get ashiny new iMAc....
