Iphoto import - file date / time not recognized

I just imported approx 1000 photos (jpg files) into my iPhoto, but the date and time on the files were not recognized by iPhoto for parsing them into different 'events'

The event is simply categorized as "untitled event" with the date ranges of Jan 15, 2004 - Nov 17, 2008.

I'd like each of the dates associated with the pics to be grouped into different events.

Is there an easy way to do this?

When you imported, there should have been a checkbox that said "autosplit events after importing." You must have missed that.

Now that they are imported, you can simply select all the photos for a particular event and then "split" the existing single event. This will give you an opportunity to rename the split photos into their own event, etc. Repeat as needed.
