Hey guys. I have a mid-2009 (bought in early 2010) 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ram. I've heard contradictory statements about the maximum ram this machine could take. Some forums say 6, some say 8, appleserialnumberinfo.com says 8, etc. I love this machine, and it does 98% of what I need it to, but I'd love that extra ram for photography and video programs.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever installed 8 GB on a similar model? Could there be any issues with doing this?

8gb of RAM is the max.
Do you use up all 4gb in your current system?

Most of the time, no. However, I shoot pictures in raw with a DSLR so the files are HUGE. Sometimes working with them in PS and such takes up quite a bit of memory. I also multitask non-stop (college student).

Oh, RAW in PS = oodles of fun.
You will benefit from the 8gb.
Kits of 8gb run about $95 right now so they've come down significantly.

Hey one more question:

Is this:

8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-8500 memory module
CT999696
Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
Package: 204-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR3 PC3-8500
Specs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 •

US $115.99

The same as getting two of these:

Specifications
Mfr Part Number: W1333SB4GV
Type: DDR3 SODIMM
Capacity: 4 GB
Speed: PC10600 1333MHz
Pins: 204pin
ECC: No
Registered: No

US $37.99

The second one is on the Slickdeals.net home page today, and for half the price, I'd just buy that. But I can't tell if they're the same.

Yea it's the same thing.
The second is faster but it will downclock due to the mobo. Save some money and get 2 of the second.

edit: Just searched the part number on Google and it's SuperTalent RAM. Personally I wouldn't use RAM from an unknown brand for warranty purposes. I have never heard of SuperTalent so I personally wouldn't purchase it, but it's up to you. And I've heard some MBP's are picky about the RAM used in them.
