Power MacG4?

I have a power mac g4 running 10.5.8. it has a 867 mhz processor and 1gb of ram. I recently just did the update from 10.3 to 10.5 everything is working great except for youtube. I will watch a video and it will play the audio normally, but the video will either skip, or not load. I Have tried youtube in firefox and safari. videos work in only 240p which looks horrible. other than that NOTHING will work. please help?!

Yupp...that's just the way it is. A Powermac G4 with an 867mhz cpu (and an old old video card) just doesn't have the horsepower to run You Tube videos smoothly.

What are you using for a video adapter? If it is as old as the G4 that could be just one of the problems. The other is the system may be lacking in processing power and ram (to old to work with the newer applications) to play anything higher than 240p.

so could i go without buying first? im trying to spend the least amount of money, so whats more of a problem? the video card or the processor?

What Is the easiest fix?

I was told i need to get a new processor and video card for my mac. Right now i have a PowerPC G4 processor 867 mhz. I'm running 10.5.8. I am not sure of the video card i have. The Purpose is for the net to run more smoothly especially Youtube, because my videos wont load above 240p. What is the cheapest/best processor that i could get? and video card? the current Processor I Have Now was purchased off of ebay in exchange for my 800 mhz PowerPC G4.

I just can't see dumping any money into a 8+ yr old Mac. The parts still fetch a price as high and in some cases more than the machine is worth. $80-$100 or more for a 7 yr old Radeon 9800 or $150 for a CPU upgrade. For a computer that sales for $50-$150.

You can buy a G5 with a 1.6 to 1.8 Ghz for $250-$300 pretty much everyday on ebay. And I can't even recommend that. At least not for your only computer.

Sorry, but for someone on that tight a budget, I'd have to recommend something like this Dell - brand new w/warranty.

Pretty much the same story here. Upgrading the cpu, video card, or both...really wouldn't matter. Just not worth it financially. This computer is worth around $50 bucks (maybe $75 if it's a "Mirror Drive Door" model). You could spend $200-$300 upgrading it...and it still might not play You Tube videos well. And that same $200-$300 would buy you so much more computer with a newer used model Mac.

I think that we answered these questions in your other thread. The cost of almost any upgrades just wouldn't be worth it (you could buy so much more computer {a different computer} with the same money).
