I have bought a new iPhone 4. I have an iMac 20inch (pre intel)

My mac is the one with the Screen on the end of a chrome arm. I think its a G4 but not sure

Can I buy and install Leopard (10.5) for my mac so I can use the iphone?

I really don't want to have to buy a new MAC just so I can use my phone!

Thnx

what is the CPU speed of the G4? Click on the Apple and on About this Mac.

You can run Leopard on a 867Mhz G4 or higher. The 1.25Ghz will run leopard decently. Might be a bit sluggish in some things but overall it will work fine.

Thanks for that.

The iphone 4.0 requirements are 10.5.8

Will I be able to update that far, on my mac once I have installed Leopard 10.5 ?

Thnx

And make sure you purchase the black coloured full retail install version only. The silver grey install discs are extremely model specific. They abound on auction sites under a myriad of names including drop in, update, upgrade, full install etc etc.

I'd recommend having a Gig or more of ram if you're planning to run Leopard. Definitely would help with the performance.
