Hi Everyone,

I am running the Daylite Server application on an old G4 Quicksilver tower

The Tower has died and I want to boot the hard drive in order to restore the backup database. I have a PPC G5 iMac and an Intel G5 imac Is it possible to connect the G4 hard drive into either G5?

I realise it wont fit properly in the G5 case, as long as I can connect it to get the data that would be fine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Malloy

If its in a G4 quicksilver, your best bet is to connect it via USB, by placing the drive in an external housing

Just type 3.5" ATA enclosure in to Google

Cheaper and perhaps more convenient than an external enclosure is a USB adaptor, like this Amazon.com: Sabrent USB-DSC5 Serial ATA or IDE 2.5-/3.5-Inch to USB 2.0 Cable Converter Adapter with Power Supply: Electronics or an equivalent from here Amazon.com: sabrent usb 2.0 to ide sata cable for 2.5-inch 3.5-inch 5.25-inch drive with power adapter.

OWC Search Results for uda at MacSales.com has a more expensive unit.

You say however that you want "to boot the hard drive in order to restore the backup database". That may be problematic using USB. in which case you may need to consider a firewire external enclosure.

hughvane is right on as usual. Your G4 iMac will not boot from USB, even USB2. Must be firewire and make sure you get a mains powered model.
