Which model Mini do you have? Is it an Intel or older Power PC G4 Mini?

In System Preferences do all the sound controls show up for output and balance?

It could be an issue with OSX and the sound drivers. Do you just use the internal speaker or do you plug in an external? If internal try an external in the headphone jack in back and see if you get any sounds? If not report back.
