Well you need to make sure your music is at least 320kpbs .mp3 or .flac for it to sound best. And even then, iPods arent know for their superb sound quality.

The Audio Technica ATH-M50's are some of the best performing headphones around $100.
Or if you want IEMs the Sennheiser CX-300 II's are definitely a basshead headphone.

I don't own them and they are definitely not less than $100..but every time I've heard the Beats headphones they are CRAZY bassy..almost too bassy for me to listen to..so if bass is your top priority, give these headphones a listen..

I second Raz0rEdge ... if you care about bass more than about music, get the Beats headphones. If you care about hearing the music AS IT SHOULD PROPERLY SOUND, get something else.

Beats were the answer for a head mounted sub or bloated bass.

My personal taste in in ear headphones:

Sony = bloated crap sound
Panasonic = okay, but thin at the bottom end
Sennheiser = spot on
Etymotic = sounds okay, but great at noise isolating
Skullcandy = AVOID AVOID AVOID

over ear headphones

Sony = okay, nothing worth noting
Sennheiser = depends on if its open or closed back. closed backs sound nice, good bass
Beats = hype, overrated bloat bass
AKG = while mine were crap, ive heard good things about their more expensive options
Skullcandy = AVOID AVOID AVOID
Shure = top notch

DISCLAIMER: this is my opinion.

I second Sennheisers from robduckyworth's list..I've got a over-the-hear open-back set that I've had for more than 10 years and they are great at work. I've got a newer set for my iMac at home and I purchased a wireless RF set for my gaming and they are awesome!

I really like the apple in ear headphones that are 79 dollars they have very good and stable bass and over all the best headphones I have had, I also really like my Bose ie2 headphones they are around 100 dollars and they have good bass.
