Timemachine Questions

Hi everyone! I am new-ish to the world of iMac, I have a 6 month old 27" Imac i7.
I use time machine to back up my entire system as advised by many. I am at OS X 10.6.5.
I know this some time away but when Lion is released I would like to do a fresh install then use time machine to restore my and my girlfriends data. I have read that time machine backs up all system files as well. So my silly question is will it be as simple as doing a clean install of Lion, plugging my USB back up drive in, and selecting restore from back up?
I appreciate that Lion is still way off but we have lots of photos and videos of the family plus lots of media in itunes!

Time machine backs up your data, applications, media and preference files. It does not make a back-up of the core OS.

So, when the time comes, you can do a clean install of Lion, and let time machine restore the rest.

Is this the same for something like CCC or SD louishen ?? If say i have done a full system BU with SuperDuper on 10.4.11 and do a clean install of SL could i use Migration Assistant to restore from the backup with no complications ?? Making sense here ??

Sorry to hijack the thread as well

Carbon Copy Cloner and Super Duper create complete byte for byte duplicates of a disk, including all files, the OS and every file permission. (it will also clone the trash but not deleted items)

Migration assistant can treat your external back-up as another mac, so choose Other Mac when Snow Leopard's welcome screen comes on, then you can point migration Assistant to the connected cloned drive and choose what to restore

Time machine is probably the easiest solution, but a cloned drive will work just as well

Thats good to know as im doing just this for a friend on the 1/1/11 ..... Should keep her out of trouble for a while ...

To be honest I'm only interested in TimeMachine. If it's as simple as installing Lion then restoring from my TM backups then I'm all for it!
