Anyone tried the new Mute Switch on the iPad since updating to iOS4?

I was playing music in iPod Mode and moved the switch to try it. A little graphic appeared on the screen briefly, showing the change from loudspeaker to muted speaker - and the music kept playing!!

I switched it back again. The graphic showed up and changed from muted to playing - and the music continued unchanged.

So I paused the music, moved the switch and resumed the music. Graphic as before and music as before.

So the switch just displays a graphic and has no effect on the actual output?

This is using the built-in speaker or the phones socket? Both just the same.

Very odd. I assume it no longer works as a screen lock either? :Smirk:

See this thread - post 27 by csixty4 explains it the best.

I don't like it either, although I guess I can see the benefit for some using their iPad in business situations - it's a wasted button now for me as well. I do not have any system sounds turned on so there is nothing for it to mute on my iPad.

I admit it can be a pain when listening to music or watching a video and I get a 'ping' telling me there is new mail, but it still seems a minor thing on which to waste a switch which I used to use a lot.

Minor irritation, but probably a wasted switch for me too now.

I've found the switch also mutes sounds from games as well, so I can listen to my ipod music without hearing game sounds, which is very nice.
