Hello

I have a Aluminium macbook purchased Jan 2009...It has 2gb Ram and I wish to upgrade it to 4gb...Certainly don't want to pay £160 for the ram upgrade at Apple, but remember reading about all sorts of 3rd party ram problems before on this model.

I have searched the web and all the threads regarding problems seem to dry up sometime ago, which is leading me to believe that MAYBE the issue is fixed..

Can anybody give me a definite answer...Was looking at Crucial Ram....£42...

Thanks

Just check reviews of the RAM on Newegg / where ever you are purchasing it from. AFAIK they still exist.

There's never really been 3rd party RAM issues as long as you buy it from a good company and but the correct type for your Mac.

Stick with the name brand manufacturers.

Biggest issue we see is those trying to save every last penny buying from distributors that basically sell the sticks the real manufacturers were unwilling to put their name on.

Buy from a reputable source with a decent return policy and make sure to get something that meets the right specs. You should be good to go. I have had several Macs with third party memory and only once had an issue (seems to have been due to a bad stick).
