How to preserve my apps?

If I try to change any of the sync options in iTunes it asks if I want to delete 6 apps from my iPad. How do I get round this? At the moment I cannot transfer anything from my Macbook to the iPad.

Ctrl-Click the iPad icon on the left under devices. Select transfer purchases. This will copy the apps in question from the iPad into iTunes.
