Big iPhone 3GS problem

Hey all, i have a really big problem, my iPhone 3GS is stuck at the apple screen with a progress bar, it ran out of warranty yesterday and its jail broken, any help? iTunes doesn't pick it up.

Ok so i got iTunes to restore the iPhone but its still at the apple logo screen and syncing at the same time???? WTH is going on?

This is quite a common problem with jailbreaking, use blackra1n to get out of that mess.

Generally the IPSW file is corrupted and can't fully update the phone.

Solution is to delete the IPSW and download a new one

iv'e used 2 different ipsw, and it still doesn't boot, i called someone from iphone technical and the booked me into an apple store and they will have a look at it, hopefully i get a new one or even an iphone 4

You won't get an iPhone 4 and be sure to tell them you jail broke it....

Also, your sig doesn't make sense. Hacking is more unlocking what developers have locked, not what you said.

Why would i tell them i jailbroke it? then i definitely wont get it replaced.

Well. Personally I've jailbroken and never had that issue. Why don't you brick your iphone by holding the power button and the home button it'll come up with the connect to itunes icon on your iphone then reload your IPSW from there? If not use tiny umbrella to put it there. If that STILL doesn't work you messed it up pretty good. Are you trying to downgrade? What OS are you running?

Precisely... It is called owning up to what you did. Why should Apple pay for you tinkering with it and breaking it?

FYI, it can be fixed. You just need to search a little more.

So i went to the apple store and they replaced it, the problem was with the hardware, i was trying to restore to the latest, the person at the apple store tried to restore it as well.

There was no problem with the hardware, you just didn't know what you were doing. I have recovered several peoples phones that they have done the exact same thing to. As mentioned above, all you had to do was brick it and then you could have restored from there. An Apple guy is not going to try this or know how to do this.

FYI, "Hacking" is actually more of an understanding of software, "cracking" is unlocking something that is locked, common misconception.

Cracking came along when people started to break things like DVD encryption, game codes and the likes. I remember the old day when it was all "hacking". I probably shouldn't have used the term "unlock". It is more like enabling a feature that was not enabled.

Hehe... It was my poor wording as I said. Unlock just implies that the programmer did it on purpose.

Still, it was much easier when anything cool was just a hack.

I think that is why it sticks so well, anything with the word "Hack" still sounds cool lol ;P
