Your Mac's Specs
13' MBP - 2.53GHz C2D - 4Gb ddr3- 250Gb HD - OSX.6/ XP Pro (via boot camp)
I've recently upgraded to 8GB in my MBP which runs at 1066MHz - DDR3 SDRAM.

My wife has an older Macbook with 1GB (two 512MB SO-DIMMs) of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300) -

The specs on Apple.com says that it has two SO-DIMM slots and support up to 4GB.

Can I use my old 4GB in her machine?

No, RAM is not backwards or forwards compatible.

You would have to buy her a new 4gb kit of DDR2 667 RAM.
