Ripping from cassette tapes?

I have a load of cassette tapes that I want to record to CD via my Macbook Pro. The OS is OS X 10.6. Any ideas anyone please?

There are plenty of apps / hardware to do this, I recommend googling 'osx cassette rip' and finding one that suits your needs

Audacity or Audio Hijack Pro for software, and you'll need a pre-amp or amp with low level line out, and a split cable or adaptor to run from the stereo out to line in mini jack on the MBP.
You can't do it without the amp part because the tape deck won't have one built in, unless you use a boom box I guess.

I use Audacity(free) and it works fine.

As has been pointed out, this is a two problem question.

1) You need the right hardware to hook up to your Mac (Stereo with pre-amp and a cassette deck hooked up to it, cables to hook the stereo to the Mac).

2) You need software on the Mac to process the signal from the stereo.

#2 is easier to solve, #1 can get very pricey. You need to identify if you have the hardware for #1 so we can assist more.

I do this all the time. I use a regular cassette deck I actually got at a thrift store, an iMic ($30) to hook it to my Mac, and Amadeus Pro ($40) to edit it. I'm sure I could spend a LOT more money to get a LITTLE BIT better results, but I'm happy where I am.

Are you sure you haven't stolen my rig Chas? lol. I have been doing the same thing since OS 10.2. Works nicely when I take the time to set the sound levels properly in Amadeus.
