I have Word for Mac 2004 (11.5.6) and can normally open attachments with this program. From time to time I need to use Text Edit but today someone sent me what I suppose is a Word document with the suffix .WPD

My version of Word will not open it and neither can I open it with Text Edit or anything else.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated ...

a .WPD file is a file created by WordPerfect, an old word processing app.

Not sure Word can open that.

Thanks ... I'd heard of Word Perfect. It's something out of the ark!

But strange that it won't open with Text Editor ... that normally opens anything.

OpenOffice.org should be able to open and convert the file.

WordPerfect is to Word as Betamax is or rather was to VHS: a superior product which failed because the inferior product was better marketed. Having to give it up is my only regret about going Mac earlier this year, and I still have access through VMWare.

For one thing, the recent versions open PDF files into editable files and that's something Word won't do for you in Mac or PC!

Thanks for the update, Andrew.
I agree that it would be handy to edit a PDF.
