I own a 15' Macbook pro from July 2008. Recently, it seems like the MBP turns itself off whenever I bring wake my computer up from sleep. This has only happened in the past week or so, and occurs a couple of times a day. Oftentimes, it is even hard to turn the computer on. Does this problem indicate a problem with the battery or something more serious?

First try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) to see if that helps. Post back and let us know.
Tried that, but it still does it. It often takes several attempts in order to boot it bast the "welcome" screen... I don't think it due to temperature (I'm living in Massachusetts) since it still does it when I leave my computer indoors. Do you think the Apple Store would help me here?

If your machine is still under warranty - apple care, make an appointment with your local Apple store genius bar and have them look at it. If not, run the Apple Hardware Test on your machine and let us know the results. Run the extended tests if possible.
