Hi, is it possible to host my own website on my IMac G5.
If it is, where do I start?

Thanks for the quick response.
Do you know which ports I would have to allow?

Port 80 has to be forwarded to the computer that is hosting

Thanks.
Am I right in thinking then that if I enable Personal web sharing and forward port 80, my site will be available to anyone on the net? It's not just a local network thing?

It will be available to anyone. Your ISP might block people from accessing but in most cases anybody can access it

Hi, thanks, it looks like the port might be blocked.
Can anyone tell me how to change the port, checked the link above but it's a bit confusing.

Hi, yes that works fine.
If i use my netgear dg834g and forward port 80 i can access the webpage using another networked pc but cant access it from another location using the internet. if i use a d-link ethernet modem i can access the web site from anywhere. must be something to do with my ip.

when using the d-link modem i use the address.
http://host-84-9-199-83.bulldogdsl.com/~chrisangus/
and it works

When i use the netgear router i'm told to use address
http://192.168.0.3/~chrisangus/
This doesn't work
