Going to buy a second hand unibody mbp 15, what tests should i do and also how to do them, before purchasing?

Apple Hardware Test, definitely. Run Disk Utility / Onyx if possible to check the HD, look for dead pixels, if possible, check the water damage indicators, check the serial number against Apple's website to confirm it is what it is. Things like that
