My friend has bought an 32GB 3G iPad yesterday. When he turns on the iPad there are two 2-inch vertical lines on the right side of the boot screen.

Do you think there is something wrong with the hardware? Or is it something with the graphics?
These lines do not (have not yet) appeared in normal operation of the device or in other applications.

Has anyone had an experience like this on iPad or iPhone?

BTW: the software version installed on the unit is 3.2.1 (7B405)

As far as I know this happens with jailbroken devices.

Is it a new unit or second hand?

It is new and jailbroken.

Any idea if this issue can go away with an upgrade or something?

Wait, are you talking about the lock screen? Has he changed the lock screen picture? Are these lines diagonal? I'm asking this because Ive heard of people thinking the lines in the sky on the original lock screen were errors or scratches before, just want to make sure that's not what's happening here.

My iPhone 4 has a couple of whitish lines at the top of the boot screen.

I've seen it on a couple of other devices too, Jailbroken and stock
