OS X rarely if ever, needs to be defragmented. However, if you desire to use a defrag program for whatever reason, iDefrag is available. ($29.95)

Had my macbook for 3 years now (edit and move files daily) and never have had to defrag. If I were you I would save your thirty bucks.

I tried it once and it didn't work, just froze. I'd say if you really want to reclaim disk space, just back up your hard drive and reinstall OS X. It's really simple and I got back something like 20GB of space.

I too prefer the "clone, test, wipe, clone back" method over buying a commercial program. Macs really don't need this to be done at all in normal use, but heavy users might see some advantage in a yearly optimising.

I suggest you take a look at this for an explanation as to why the need to defrag doesn't exist.

I have been using OS X almost daily since the original 10.0 release. I have defragged drives a few times but the only time i needed to was in setting up Bootcamp. Clone, test, and clone back works nicely. I've had a couple of defragging programs crash mid-way.
