Pull video from DVD to edit (have rights to footage)

I've always shot my own footage and had the raw data files to work with and edit. I'm working on a couple projects where people have provided footage on DVD. I am looking for any suggestions (low cost) to rip the DVDs into the raw data files (.avi or the sort) to edit. None of it is copyright protected or anything like that. What's my best low-cost (no watermark) option? Thanks so much.

I would use MPEG Streamclip to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) with uncompressed 48kHz audio. The thing is that you need Apple's MPEG-2 component decoder installed which costs a little money. I have it somehow, so I believe I received it with Final Cut Studio.

Why use this over Handbrake? Because you can convert the source straight into something the editor likes. That is potentially one less lossy conversion over Handbrake. It may be little more complicated though.
