MacBook pro to TV w/Audio

so i just bought a MBP and i wanted to connect it to my TV so that i can watch movies on it. i bought the DVI to HDMI connector and it worked but audio will not come out of the TV only the Mac. before i go and buy this Amazon.com: RiteAV - 3.5mm to Stereo RCA Male Cable - 6 ft.: Electronics

i wanted to know if their was a different way with buying anything.

DVI doesn't carry sound, only picture.

You would need a mini-display port to HDMI.
Something like: Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.)

Just make sure you read the little asterisk
(Note: *Audio support is only available for MacBook Pro 13/15/17-in. mid-2010 release; iMac 21.5/27-in. early-2010 release)

i dont know how to make audio work, im not familiar with mac setting yet.

Ah gotcha.

Well it does have some sketchy reviews, but if the HDMI doesn't automatically switch over to sound try this:
Apple Menu -> System Preferences -> Sound -> Output then change it to HDMI out.

One way to make 100% sure your Mac will support HDMI sound out is to go to Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> More Info -> Audio (Built In). If it has HDMI output listed, it will work. If you have that and you still don't have sound after doing the above, it is probably the adapter. Some people have reported issues not using the proprietary Apple adapter.

had to change audio ac3 to DTS audio in VLC player thanks for the help.
