I download a couple of icon png. images that I'd like to use on my dock. When you click on the images in the download folder they preview as just the icon. When you try and take them out of the folder the icon has a white background with it. How can I just get it to be the icon? :\

I take it that you are wanting to use this new icon for an existing file? If so, select the existing file in Finder, right click and select Get Info. Do the same for the icon file.

In the icon's Info panel, select the icon at the top of the panel, and from the Finder Edit menu, select copy. In the existing file's Info panel, select it's icon, and from the Edit menu select Paste. It will now have it's new icon.
