Black MacBook. Once you go black, you never go back. 2.0 Ghz Intel Core Duo; 2 GB RAM; 80 GB HDD
My friend wants to upgrade the RAM on her PowerMac G5 1.6Ghz machine. I was reading the directions on how to install the RAM and it says it must be installed in pairs. Apparently there are 2 seperate sections for the RAM to be installed and so equal size RAM has to be installed in the same numbered slots in the 2 seperate sections? Or is this just for the recent PowerMacs? Thanks for the help.

That is true for all PM G5's. If you want 1gb, you need 2 512, 2 1gb sticks for 2gb. You can't have 1gb stick and a 512 stick.

So are there 4 available slots (which would actually be 8 since it's in pairs) or is 4 available slots TOTAL (which would actually be 2 slots per section)?

okay, so she also wants to upgrade her hard drive now too. What's the difference between Serial ATA/150 and Serial ATA II? Will either work on the PowerMac 1.6Ghz? Thanks again for all the help.

There are 4 slots total.

I forgot that the 1.6ghz can have a maximum of 4gb of ram (4 1gb sticks) (PC2700)

I think you want to get a Serial ATA/150 for her computer
