WiFi reception ???

Good morning all...

What is with the Macbook ?? I have a Lynksys router which routes to all other laptops in the house, but NOT to this MacBook unless I am closer than 10 feet and in direct view ??? Is there any way to check the settings or adjust the range ?? Using OS x 10.5.8

Given that your non-Macintosh computers connect to your WiFi without a problem..it is always possible that the Macbooks WiFi is having a problem (hardware problem).

As far as adjustments/settings...to adjust the range. Not really anything you can do...you're either connected to your WiFi or you're not. By the way...what sort of wireless network do you have (I know that you gave us the router brand...but not the model)...is the wireless network b, g, or n?

Thanks for the response... my router is a Linksys "G Broadband"... Like you, I suspect a hardware problem which maybe only a new card may resolve.. Looks like I'm off to the Apple store for a service call...

If you feel that your Macbooks Airport card is bad...you could try replacing it yourself (if you feel comfortable doing it). I'm not 100% sure which model Macbook you have..but here's an example of the Airport card you may need ($79.95):

Repairs at the Apple Store can be expensive..that's why I do as many repairs as I can myself. Of course if your Macbook still has Applecare warranty on it...then definitely have the Apple Store do it.

Here's what I would try. Go to a local coffee shop/area that has free wifi. Check to see how it works. In my case, my AT&T wireless modem doesn't work as well with my mbp because of its protective crap that is provided my the AT&T, the lynksys abg(with dual antennas) router that I had also doesn't work as well. BUT, the mbp works perfectly great at other locations like Caribou and startbucks.

Taking it to apple wouldn't hurt though.
